LWA conducts two types of support groups for families: one which enables families to share
their experiences with others who have similar experiences, and the other to help siblings
work through issues they may experience in their relationship with a brother or sister with
autism spectrum disorder. The support groups are opportunities for parents and children to
know that they are not alone with the disability, and that there are answers. The
goal is twofold: to be professionally therapeutic so that we provide a safe place to
express feelings, hurts and pressures with trained staff present as facilitators, and to
have a place for family members to share experiences, discuss issues and explore solutions.
